Timber burls are a natural growth that occurs on trees sometimes. The grain twists and turns, and gum pockets also often occur. They take lots of resin filling to make them into a smooth and serviceable top, but the work pays off. As a designer they are complex thing to make look elegant. I often bring the legs through the top to try and connect the base and burl together as one organic piece. This table was made for an exhibition, and was sold at the time.
