Clay has an immediacy and honesty that continually draws me back to the studio. Its malleability invites exploration, while its intrinsic strength demands patience and respect. Every vessel begins as a simple form and through touch, texture and fire, it becomes something both enduring and intimate.
I am inspired by the patterns and rhythms of the natural world, as well as the refinement of Japanese aesthetics and the symbolic language of Asian design. My pieces are shaped using traditional handbuilding and wheel techniques, then decorated through sgraffito, stamping, wax resist and printing. No two works are ever identical, yet they share a continuity of form, surface and spirit.
Living and working in the lush surrounds of the Bellingen Shire, I find daily inspiration in the landscape and in the sanctuary of my garden. My practice moves between functional ware and sculptural pieces, each created with the intention of being lived with, loved and discovered over time.
